Growing Health Care Needs Addressed in Medina County

Kim Bowen, M.D

Kim Bowen, M.D., is the medical director of Medina Health Ministries, located at 425 W. Liberty St. in Medina. He is very proud of the growing organization, which now boasts two exam rooms and the capacity for EKG, blood sugar tests and physicals. Services include diagnoses, treatments and some medication programs. Most of the services provided through the clinic come at no cost to the patient.

MHM exists to strengthen the quality of life in the community through the provision of health care services to qualified individuals in Medina County.

Patients who are eligible to receive care through the clinic must:

                  • Be employed
                  • Have no health insurance coverage
                  • Not be receiving government medical care or aid
                  • Have an income level within 200 percent of the federal poverty level
                  • Live in Medina County

MHM faces challenges as it manages its current patients and a 30-patient waiting list. MHM can now see patients two days per week, or by appointment. Currently, there are eight volunteer doctors and several nurses serving the county. MHM needs more physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and volunteers.

The MHM board of directors takes a creative and strategic approach to resolving patient needs. It collaborates with Medina General Hospital for tests, X-rays and several therapies. It also works with pharmaceutical companies on behalf of patients who benefit from available patient-assistant programs. The drug repository program is supported by institutions and doctors' offices willing to donate medications.
